hello
it's my first participation in ''english section''
fisrtly i'd like to say that's a very good idea to have such a section in our forum
and I hope more and more Forumed users will get used to read and write in English, whether through this section, at university, or at work.but the problem is that even if we can speak english fluenttly can we understand when we listen ? for exemple on the CNN channel
for helping each other to learn english :
http://www.livemocha.com/
http://www.anglaisfacile.com/
it's seems useful!

You are using a good English z_414

Learning English goes through processes, listening, oral and writing.
1st step is how to utter, how to pronounce, how to create a simple English sentence.
2nd step listening: hearing music, news, movies...etc; don't be influenced by the accent American, British...etc
The composition of 1st and 2nd will help to improve the English learning. hadarat

The information channels are usually easy to undersantd, as journalists try to speak quite clearly.

It is far more difficult to understand a soap opera for example, as actors often have awful welsh, scottish or south African accents.

Me I'd rather advise you to learn both French and English : English is the international business language and is more widely spoken, French is a diplomatic language and even in anglo-saxon countries, it is well regarded to be fluent in French. Moreover, I also suggest learning those languages because they are quite similar, about 36 % of the English vocabulary come from the French.

And you can complete this by learning Spanish, and maybe a more original language (Russian ? Chinese ? ...).

To keep improving on my English,I speak English when I'm talking to American, British or Irish friends. And I often go to the USA or GB in order to practice a bit.

I don't think readily that the french language influence, has kept it's long gone momentum within whole hosts of the Algerian society. It is utterly true to advocate, that the old generation of people who grew up within the grasps of the french colonialisme, have kept some sort of a charnel bond with the former occupying power(and the ability to speack the language for that matter). But,implying that Algerians think french( Exclamation ) and evolve around a french environement( Exclamation ),would surely amount for a rethorical far fetched exercise.

Needless to say that english is becoming more and more popular and hence the need to learn it became extremely necessary because if you notice you can communicate easily via this linguistic channel everywhere in the world and thus english is regarded as the future global language.
and concerning the creation of this english section in forcesdz i think that it is a brilliant idea because it will introduce english speaking people to know more or less about this forum and the nature of the topics tackled here and on the other hand facilitate their contributions here and make things much more easier for them
that's all what i want to say , keep up the good work

Regards Smile

There is no need to think or in english, but it would be very useful for the Algerians to hone equally their skills in English and French, because as I said, it is not difficult to learn both languages which share some common roots. Though a germanic language, English has about 35 % of its vocabulary coming from the French language. It is true that French is no longer a massively-used language but notwithstanding this, it is more than well regarded to be a skilled french speaker (even in English-speaking countries). And it might prove useful. If you have to select European languages to learn, I'd suggest learning English, French and Spanish but one might have different views on this crucial issue.
